Below are Updates from Community Forest Partners Across the Region

Wallowa East Moraine

On September 21, the Wallowa East Moraine Community Forest Management Plan was adopted by Wallowa County. This was a culmination of a decade worth of work from the Wallowa Community.

Jefferson Land Trust

On October 22, Valley View and Chimacum Ridge Community Forest hosted a community 'site design' workshop with several local community members, including several youth, as well as about 12 landscape architects in coordination with the WA Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Indian Creek Community Forest

On October 19, Kalispel Natural Resources and Washington DNR successfully coordinated a seven acre prescribed fire.

Additionally, in partnership with the Pacific Education Institute, the forest was able to develop a state certified curriculum for the Kalispel Language Survival School. These immersion programs will focus on Grizzly Bear and Bull Trout biology, habitat, and threats to their recovery.

Stewart Mountain

Whatcom Land Trust is closing in on funding for the first 550 acres from Whatcom County. This 550 acre is the highest priority of a 5,000 acre community forest project.

Teanaway Community Forest

The Teanaway Community Forest hosted Washington State DNR Commissioner Hilary Franz this past June and requested support to connect Cle Elum Ridge to the Teanaway Community Forest.

Ilwaco Community Forest

The Ilwaco Community Forest is estimated to open at the end of November 2022.
