Video: Indian Creek

Community Forest

Acquired in 2012, the Indian Creek Community Forest is a 410 acre community forest outside of Newport, Washington, owned and managed by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians. With a native plant nursery, educational forest, walking trails, and a fishing pond, the Indian Creek Community Forest is a resource, not just for the Kalispel Tribe, but for the entirety of the surrounding communities.

The forest provides opportunity for residents, tribal members, and community partners to access and understand the local forest ecosystem. Educational events take place within the forest, with the goal of inspiring future natural resource careers, strengthening good land stewardship ethics, and increasing the knowledge visitors have of the Northeast Washington region. Watch the video below to learn more about the benefits the Indian Creek Community Forest brings to both the Kalispel Tribe and local community members.

This video project was supported in full from the partnership and financial assistance by the United States Forest Service through the Community Forest & Open Space Conservation Program.
